The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a press release to inform that the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) and the HKMA itself have formed a partnership to bolster cross-border collaboration and support climate finance in the Middle East and Asia. This partnership aims to advance sustainable finance in the regions and contribute to the net-zero transition in alignment with the goals of the Paris agreement.
A major initiative under this partnership is the upcoming joint Climate Finance Conference which is planned to be held in Hong Kong in the fall of 2024. The conference will explore „opportunities and challenges in accelerating transition financing in the Middle East and Asia“, focusing on the role of supervisors and central banks, existing and innovative green financing solutions, and international cooperation for climate action.
The partnership aligns with the UAE’s commitment to sustainable development and the net-zero transition, as well as Hong Kong’s role as a leading green and sustainable finance hub in Asia. By fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration, the DFSA and HKMA demonstrate a strong commitment to responsible financial practices and the global transition to a net-zero economy in an effort to tackle climate change.
