In view of proposed new rules to modify and enhance the capital requirements of large financial institutions in the U.S. and to make essential changes to the risk-based capital surcharges for global systemically important bank holding companies (please see EventID 22526 in this context for more information), the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (FED), the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) have now launched a corresponding survey (please see the enclosed xls files). The purpose of the survey is to determine the impact of the proposed new rules on financial institutions, specifically on their risk-weighted assets, thereby helping the regulators to assess potential alternative options and to inform future policy.
Participation in the survey is voluntary. The information submitted will generally be treated as confidential, with certain exemptions to share the data with other regulatory agencies for policy purposes, possibly in an aggregated and anonymized form. If institutions would like to participate they should observe that the reported data pertains to the second quarter of 2023 and be denominated in USD (in thousands) unless specified otherwise. Any questions regarding the survey and enclosed templates should be directed to BSR-QIS-Main@frb.gov. The deadline for the provision of the requested data is January 16, 2024.
