The Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) has issued a press release in which it informs about the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the China Beijing Green Exchange (CBGEX). This agreement aims to facilitate cooperation across several key areas, notably the establishment of an ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) ecosystem, the promotion of sustainable finance, and active contribution to the green development initiatives within the Belt and Road Initiative.
The collaboration between HKEX and CBGEX intends to explore and support cross-border sustainable development, particularly addressing the rising demand stemming from China’s heightened focus on green infrastructure investments and its transition towards a low-carbon economy. Both parties thereby plan to engage in joint research concerning green and transition finance, efforts towards enhancing ESG standards and building ESG disclosure capabilities, and the exploration of opportunities within the carbon market.
Glenda So, HKEX’s Head of Emerging Business & FIC, expressed her gratitude about this partnership, emphasizing its alignment with HKEX’s commitment to combatting climate change and fostering a sustainable global investment ecosystem.
