The RAID conference (standing for Regulation of AI, Internet & Data) will take place on 26th September 2023 in Brussels, with the participation of CNPD. The event aims to address the delicate balance between technology regulation and innovation in the context of increased globalization, expanding jurisdiction, and rapid technological progress.
The conference will bring together legislators, regulators, and policy experts to discuss regulatory frameworks, legislation, innovation, and international cooperation in the field of technology. RAID focuses on positive engagement around shared challenges and opportunities related to technology regulation worldwide, catering to various regions and technology companies, both big and small.
Major global concerns to be tackled in the RAID agenda include the power of big tech, the growth of AI, financial stability, platform reach, data protection, and polarization. A top priority is balancing antitrust initiatives with the interests of the tech sector to achieve productive economic growth through innovation.
RAID also aims to foster international alignment on the fundamentals of AI regulation, especially given the differing approaches taken by various regions, including the European Commission’s Artificial Intelligence Act and China’s AI regulatory system plans.
Regarding fintech, RAID facilitates collaboration between the financial services sector and regulators to address the risks posed by cross-border fintech activities and the emergence of digital currencies.
The conference further focuses on how to assess, define, and categorize tech platforms, as well as the implications of content moderation and communication processes for society.
Data protection is another significant aspect discussed at RAID, bringing data protection commissioners together to create a level playing field and identify areas for further legislative development.
The conference’s agenda includes various panels addressing topics like digital governance, consumer protection, cross-border technology, the impact of AI regulation, data protection, the digital wallet, competition law, and regulatory readiness for future technologies.
