The FSA published an update of its list of institutional investors who have notified the FSA of their intention to accept Japan’s Stewardship Code to promote sustainable growth of companies through investment and dialogue, counting 206 investment managers as of 30 June 2023.
These Principles for Responsible Institutional Investors were published as Finalization of the Japan’s Stewardship Code (Second revised version) by the Council of Experts on the Stewardship Code on 24 March 2020.
The Second Revised Code describes in its preamble the recommended process of the publication of the list of institutional investors who accept the code. The Council expects institutional investors who accept the Code to publicly disclose on their website their intention to accept the Code, and to disclosure items based on the principles, including guidance, of the Code. The Councils also expect the Financial Services Agency to publish the information about the institutional investors who have made the disclosure in a tabular form. Entities intending to accept the Code are invited to notify the FSA via the email address jstewardship@fsa.go.jp of their intention.
As of 30 June 2023, there were 327 institutional investors in the list (see APPENDIX below for more details), classified as follows:
– Trust banks: 6
– Investment managers: 206
– Insurance companies: 24
– Pension funds: 80
– Others (Service Providers for Institutional Investors, etc.): 11
