On May 12, 2023, the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, KNF, published a press release to inform of several upcoming seminars about „Risk and regulations in the banking [and the insurance] sector“ in May 2023.
##### The first event will take place on May 16, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. and will cover the following two key issues:
(1) New forms of refinancing housing loans: How to build a covered bond market?: Key point of discussion during the seminar will be ways to resolve maturity mismatches between assets and liabilities of banks, particularly in view of the current banking „crisis“, as noted by the KNF.
(2) Contingent convertibles (CoCos) and MREL in banks and insurance companies: situation after Credit Suisse: The seminar will focus on the questions of whether or not CoCos actually help enhance financial resilience of Polish banks and the financial system as a whole and whether or not improvements should be made to these types of instruments which help banks convert liabilities into assets (equity), when needed. Additionally, the seminar will cover the use of Minimum Requirement for Own Funds and Eligible Liabilities instruments (e.g. debt instruments eligible for write-downs) in case of liquidation.
##### Registration for this event closes at 10:00 a.m. on May 16, 2023 and may be made via this link.
The agenda may be accessed via this link. Please note that the seminar will be held in Polish only and will take place in hybrid form. Only registered individuals and entities may pose questions during the event. Non-registered parties may still observe the live seminar.
Further upcoming seminars in May 2023 will cover ESG-risk assessments in banks and (re)insurance undertakings, including challenges faced by institutions in assessing their own risks, conclusions from first stress-test results, risk mitigation strategies, and many others.
