Circular to Intermediaries Submission of BCAN-CID Mapping File for the Hong Kong Investor Identification Regime

The Securities and Futures Commission, SFC, has issued a circular in connection with the upcoming new Hong Kong Investor Identification Regime (HKIDR) which will come into force on March 20, 2023. Specifically, the circular reminds intermediaries that they may now submit their mapping files including the assigned BCANs (Broker-to-Client Assigned Numbers) and the matched Client Identification Data (CID) to the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (SEHK) or HKEX via the exchange’s Electronic Communication Platform (ECP) web interface and / or the ECP (SFTP) interface. Submissions can be made up to the effective date on March 20, 2023. The earlier submissions take place, the more time remains for correcting any erroneous data.
Also, the SFC reminds intermediaries of their obligation to have obtained client consent for the „collection, storage, processing and use of personal data in relation to such client’s BCANs and CIDs under the HKIDR“ prior to submitting any data to the SEHK.
