New Commission Decision (EU) 2023/1575 as regards the yearly quantity of allowances referred to in Article 9 of Directive 2003/87/EC, the Directive on greenhouse gas emission allowance trading, „to be issued under the EU Emissions Trading System for 2024″ was published in the Official Journal (OJ) of the EU.
According to the decision, these allowances shall be set at 1,386,051,745. This limit takes into account
– the yearly reduction factor as specified in Directive (EU) 2023/959 (-90,000 million) to reduce the overall number of available emission certificates,
– the increase of allowances for maritime transport by 78,4 million, and
– the „exclusion from the EU ETS of small installations“ pursuant to Article 27 of the 2023 Directive.
It does NOT, however, contain the emission allowances for aircraft operators.
