Council Decision (CFSP) 2023/2228 was published in the Official Journal (OJ) of the EU. Therein, the European Council stipulates that Council Decision (CFSP) 2015/1763 setting out targeted sanction measures in connection with the situation in Burundi shall apply for another year, up to October 31, 2024.
To recap, the 2015 Decision sets out targeted measures, primarily financial sanctions in form of asset freezes, for persons, firms, and entities that are responsible for serious human rights violations, abuses, or repression in Burundi, as well as persons, firms, and entities whose actions, policies, or activities otherwise support such.
