A new consolidated version of Council Regulation (EU) No 36/2012 concerning sanctions measures with respect to the Syrian regime and its supporters in view of the „brutal repression and violation of human rights“ has been published in the Official Journal (OJ) of the EU. The consolidated text thereby includes the modifications made by Council Regulation (EU) 2023/407 which amended Article 16a of the 2012 Council Regulation to permit until August 25, 2023 certain financial transactions and – under special circumstances – the release of frozen funds for purposes of providing humanitarian aid to Syria following the devastating earthquake on February 6, 2023.
