In a recent Readout, U.S. Department of the Treasury (USDT) briefly outlines the key discussion points of a recent roundtable among private sector companies, public sector officials, and the USDT „on the use of virtual assets by Domestic Violent Extremists (DVEs) and foreign Racially and Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremists (RMVEs)“. According to the regulator, the discussion thereby focused on the way DVEs and RMVEs transfer funds using virtual assets and the key challenges institutions, regulators, and private sector entities face in identifying such malicious activity.
However, what’s even more important, in the readout, the USDT announces a new landing page for private and public sector entities that provides up-to-date information on „how terrorist groups and their supporters raise, move, and use funds to facilitate their violent activities“ and which includes relevant publications that may help financial institutions safeguard against and detect terrorist financing activity.
