The second phase of experimentation for FinTech activities in Italy began on 3 November 2023, and will conclude on 5 December 2023. During this phase, industry operators can apply for admission to the regulatory sandbox, a protected space for testing projects in the banking, financial, and insurance sectors.
Participation in the sandbox, as outlined in the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s decree of 30 April 2021, allows supervised intermediaries and FinTech operators to experiment with innovative products and services while benefiting from a simplified transitional regulatory framework.
Projects in the FinTech sector can be admitted without limitations on the number. Interested operators are encouraged to initiate informal discussions with supervisory authorities as soon as possible.
Contact details and more detailed information are available on the dedicated pages of the mentioned institutions‘ websites, as well as on the Department of the Treasury’s website, which oversees the Technical Secretariat of the FinTech Committee. Additionally, you can consult the official register of FinTech operators already admitted to the sandbox during the first phase of experimentation on the Treasury Department’s website.
Information on the regulations, application procedures, and participation requirements can be found on the Consob website’s sandbox section: https://www.consob.it/web/area-pubblica/sandbox.
