The Financial Services Agency (FSA) of Japan has announced that it will be hosting the hybrid G7 Cybersecurity Seminar 2023 to discuss the mitigation of cyber risks faced by financial institutions. The seminar will invite foreign and domestic governments and financial institutions to participate in an active discussion on the issue, which has become a globally significant concern.
Indeed, Cybersecurity risks faced by financial institutions have increased due to the expansion of system development outsourcing and the increased complexity and globalization of supply chains. In addition, cyberattacks involving suspected state actors and frequent ransomware attacks by international hacker groups have made the mitigation of cyber risks a top priority for financial institutions.
To address these concerns, the G7 Cyber Expert Group (CEG) developed two fundamental elements in October 2022: Third Party Cyber Risk Management and Ransomware Resilience. These two elements will be the focus of the FSA’s cybersecurity seminar, which will also include discussions on the FSA’s efforts to improve the cybersecurity standards of regional financial institutions.
The seminar will also provide an opportunity for participants to exchange information on cybersecurity threats and best practices for mitigating cyber risks. By bringing together governments and financial institutions from around the world, the FSA hopes to promote international cooperation in addressing cybersecurity risks and strengthening the resilience of the global financial system.
