The Riksbank on banking concerns in the USA

ID 22295

On March 15, 2023, the Central Bank of Sweden, Riksbank, published a press statement in view of the recent bank failures of the two U.S. banks Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank and potential spill-over effects upon the Swedish banking system.
In its statement, Riksbank notes that the exposures of Swedish financial institutions to named banks are very limited. Additionally, Swedish banks are subject to much tighter, more stringent regulatory requirements than their U.S. counterparts. Furthermore, Riksbank states that from past experience it is highly unlikely that turbulences in foreign capital markets spill over into Sweden.
Nonetheless, the regulator will closely monitor the situation and will take prompt action, if the situation so demands.
