EBA started a consultation on proposed changes to its Guidelines on the specification and disclosure of systemic importance indicators. The primary focus of these amendments is the updating of the annex, a component of the guidelines, to align with the latest data template issued by the BCBS. This alignment aims to harmonize the reporting standards with internationally agreed-upon norms, while also ensuring consistency within the EU’s regulatory framework.
The impetus behind these amendments comes from the BCBS’s recent revisions to its data template, published in January 2023, designed for identifying G-SIIs. EBA is keen on synchronizing its regulations with these global standards to facilitate a comprehensive and coordinated approach to systemic risk management in the banking sector.
These amendments are framed within the context of CRD V and are aligned with internationally recognized standards, including those set by the FSB and the BCBS. Moreover, the proposed changes incorporate additional clarity on the reporting of cross-jurisdictional indicators related to the SRM, enhancing the precision and comprehensibility of the guidelines.
Characterized as primarily technical in nature, these amendments aim to uphold reporting consistency across institutions and regions. Once the consultation process concludes, the EBA plans to integrate the approved amendments into the official EU regulatory framework. This will help bolster the resilience of the banking sector and enhance its ability to manage and mitigate systemic risks effectively.
The consultation period for stakeholders to provide feedback on these proposed amendments extends until 1 September 2023. Interested parties can submit their comments through the consultation page. All contributions received will be published following the end of the consultation, unless requested otherwise.
