In an effort to support retail client financial literacy and promote the National Financial Capability Month, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has published a press statement addressed at supervised institutions. In it, the regulator points banks and savings associations to several resources that may help institutions to „provide high-quality financial literacy education and services for consumers and communities that are safe, sound, and fair“. These resources may be linked on their websites or may otherwise be mentioned or posted by institutions. One resource of particular relevance is the OCC HelpWithMyBank.gov website which provides information on basic financial issues such as bank accounts, loans, credit cards, investments, and others. The OCC would strongly welcome the linkage of such site.
Additionally, the OCC reminds national banks and savings associations of the sources available to the institutions themselves to stay up-to-date on financial literacy topics and events, including the availability of the OCC’s own „Community Affairs Officers“, which can provide important information to institutions on measures they may or can take to support the National Financial Capability Month.
